The Willowgarth

A watercolour of a pond surrounded by Autumn trees.

The Willowgarth in Ecclesfield near Sheffield was a favourite haunt of my youth,
apparently there was once a house on the island in the middle of the ring of water,
like a castle and a moat in miniature. Despite being close to houses and the village
it is wonderfully tranquil. It was difficult to paint because of the millions of leaves,
not that I painted each one individually, but giving the impression of those leaves was a challenge.
